Best Practice Infokit: The Transition from 2D Drawing to 3D Building Information Modelling

What is Building Information Modelling?
Building Information Modelling (BIM) has many definitions, most of which are really complicated. But put simply, it means that design is conceived with building components, like walls, floors, doors, etc., that are parametric objects – in other words they “know” what type of building component they are and therefore how they relate to other building components. Modifying and combining objects enables buildings, of any scale and shape to be designed as a 3D model. From this 3D model you can produce quickly and efficiently plans, sections, elevations, construction details and schedules.
